GENERAL AREA AND SITE DESCRIPTION

COUNTY OF SIMCOE

Simcoe County’s superior location is bordered between Toronto to the south and the Canadian Shield cottage country to the north.  Its western border is the sandy and rocky shore of Georgian Bay, and its eastern border is the rural shore of Lake Simcoe. Simcoe County is older than Canada itself, and is considered a highly desirable place to live.  County is in fifth place as the most desirable municipality for people moving within the county.

A half-hour drive from Toronto delivers you to the County’s southern border and a 474,242 hectare (1,830 square mile) area of two cities, seven towns and nine townships, rolling farmland and ski hills, historic sites and more than 330,000 people.

Three main sectors fuel growth – industry, agriculture and tourism.

County businesses can rely on major north-south provincial highways, including the multi-land 400 from Toronto and the Trans-Canada heading east and west, rail lines, the Great lakes, the Trent-Severn Waterway, and six airports, including the new Lake Simcoe Regional Airport, which can handle commercial jets.  Within 160 kilometres live six million Ontario residents.  A one-day truck drive delivers goods to 120 million North American consumers.

Hundreds of diverse industries have found what they’re looking for in Simcoe County. One of the largest includes Honda of Canada in Alliston. But the backbone is the high number of diversified, smaller industries. The County’s labour force is skilled and flexible, receiving training at four adult learning centers, three Georgian College campuses, and through extension courses offered in the County by several Ontario universities.

Recreational and tourism opportunities in the County, with its eight provincial parks and 28,000 acres of managed forests, golf courses, snowmobile, hiking and biking trails, ski hills, freshwater lakes and resorts, including the longest freshwater beach in the world on Georgian Bay, will draw employers and employees looking for a more comfortable and less expensive life than Toronto can offer.
